In her bid for Re-Election, SAG-AFTRA Prez, Gabrielle Carteris, BULLDOZED Union Members' Rights
NOT IN OUR NAMES! Dear Union Sisters & Brothers, If Our Union Can Violate the Rights of Our SAG-AFTRA Sisters & Brothers, and we fail to...
As Background Artists constitute the Majority Membership of the Screen Actors Guild, it is incumbent upon our Union - the AFL-CIO Affiliate known as SAG-AFTRA - to vigorously advocate for fair pay and safe working conditions for all Union Background Artists. But as SAG-AFTRA has repeatedly failed to adequately protect Union Background Artists from predatory film & television Production Contracts - endorsing production contracts that pay Union Members no more than Minimum Wage, and in some cases, pay Union Members NOTHING at all for their work - and repeatedly failed to protect Union Background Artists from unlawful, unsafe and unhealthy working conditions - prompting the Background Artists Coalition to open an ongoing dialogue with NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson, with whom we continue to advocate for the NYC Council to enact legislation intended to protect Background Artists working on film and television sets throughout NYC, Background Actors have united in this Nationwide Coalition to advocate on our own behalf.
